A marketing strategy shouldn't start with, "Let's run some ads."
It should start with questions.
Before recommending SEO, paid ads, social media, content, or anything else, a good marketing agency needs to understand the business behind the marketing.
1. What Are You Actually Trying to Achieve?
"More visibility" isn't a strategy.
An agency should understand whether the goal is:
- More qualified leads
- Higher revenue
- Better brand awareness
- New market expansion
- Customer retention
- Product launches
Without a clear business objective, it's impossible to know whether marketing is actually working.
2. Who Is Your Ideal Customer?
Not everyone is your customer.
A good agency should ask:
- Who buys from you?
- What problem are they trying to solve?
- Why do they choose you?
- What usually stops them from buying?
- How long does the buying decision take?
The answers shape everything from messaging to targeting.
3. What Has Already Been Tried?
Before building something new, an agency should understand what already happened.
What worked?
What didn't?
Which channels generated leads?
Which campaigns generated revenue?
Which efforts simply generated activity?
Past performance gives an agency context—and prevents it from repeating expensive mistakes.
4. How Does Your Sales Process Work?
Marketing doesn't operate in isolation.
An agency should understand what happens after a lead comes in.
Who follows up?
How quickly?
What percentage of leads become opportunities?
Where do prospects usually drop off?
If marketing generates 100 leads but sales converts only two, simply generating more leads isn't necessarily the answer.
5. What Makes You Different?
An agency needs to understand why someone should choose your business instead of your competitor.
That could be:
- Better product
- Better service
- Faster delivery
- Expertise
- Price
- Experience
- A completely different positioning
Without this understanding, marketing can become generic very quickly.
6. What Does Success Look Like?
Before recommending a strategy, both sides should agree on what success actually means.
Is it:
Traffic? Leads? Qualified opportunities? Revenue? Customer acquisition cost?
Because getting more likes isn't necessarily growth.
The Strategy Should Come After the Questions
A good marketing agency shouldn't walk into the first meeting with a pre-packaged strategy and try to fit your business into it.
Understand first. Strategise second. Execute third.
At LeadWorkZ, we believe the best marketing strategies come from asking better questions—not simply doing more marketing.
Because if an agency doesn't understand your business, how can it possibly know what your marketing needs?
